I've never ridden my bike or run in so much rain-ever. Almost every race
and many of my rides have involved some level of precipitation. Which leads me to the point of my story. A couple weeks ago
I did one of my favorite triathlons down in Sebring. Somewhere around mile 5 the skies opened up on the bike and never stopped
until sometime after I crossed the finish line. Sebring does not drain well. We dismounted the bikes in about 8 inches of
water. Fortunately the transition was on high ground (though it didn't save my cell phone) so at least our equipment wasn't
floating away. Off on the run, and the first step out of transition was in about 6 inches of water. There were many more ankle
deep sections to follow. Ok, here is the real point of my story. I was wearing my Zoot racing shoes. You
know, the ones I wrote about earlier this year as the hot, hot newcomer on the market. Once again, the Zoot Ultra Race lived
up to the hype. Not a squish, slip, blister or extra added rain weight, these shoes stayed light with their drain holes. My
sockless feet stayed in place with the slightly textured sock liner, and as I ran by other competitors as they squished and
slogged their way to the finish line, I felt bad for the woman in my age group that I passed as she lumbered on in her black
New Balance trail shoes that now weighed 2 pounds each. Ok, I didn't feel bad at all. If you are a triathlete
and you haven't tried out the Zoot shoes, you are missing out on the best tri shoe on the market.
